Louisiana Athletes Take on Paris Olympics
With the Olympics beginning next week, let’s take a look at the presence of Louisiana in the competition! The 2024 Olympics will be held in Paris, France and there are several Louisiana residents that will be making the trip. Some of those heading there include Allaksei Shostak, Kristen Nuss, Taryn Kloth, Sha'Carri Richardson, and Mondo Duplantis, just to name a few. Let's take a closer look at these athletes.
First up, Kristen Nuss and Taryn Kloth make a strong team and are top contenders for the beach volleyball gold medal at the Paris Olympics! This duo is highly decorated and has obtained many gold and silver medals in elite competitions, including world championships. Nuss and Kloth started playing together at LSU in 2020 and have been an impressive duo ever since!
Allaksei Shostak has earned a spot on the USA Trampoline team for the Paris Olympics! Shostak is well-known as he competed for Team USA in this event at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics. Coming from Youngsville, LA, Shostak trains under Dmitri Poliaroush, who owns the local Trampoline and Tumbling Express.
Famous athlete Sha’Carri Richardson is heading to the Paris Olympics, having missed out on the Tokyo Olympics in 2021 due to a failed drug test for marijuana. Richardson spent a year at LSU before becoming a professional athlete in 2019. She will compete for Team USA in the 100-meter sprint and as part of the women's 4x100 relay team.
Although not representing stars and stripes at the Paris Olympics, Mondo Duplantis is a well-known athlete from Lafayette. He attended Lafayette High School and later LSU, where he gained fame for his impressive pole vaulting skills. He has decided to represent Team Sweden, his mother’s country, in the 2024 Olympics.
